Nasal Health

Allergy season peaks in Nashville from February to November. If you’re a Nashville native, you know the plants that make our community special can worsen allergy symptoms. A couple of allergens cause elevated symptoms in Nashville:

  • Springtime blooms lead to high pollen counts.

  • Heavy rains in the spring cause a damp, cool environment leading to mold growth.

  • Grass and trees in the area also release allergens when trimmed or cut.

At Riverside Village Pharmacy, we offer a variety of solutions to help improve your nasal health during allergy season and all year round.

What Causes Allergies?

Nasal allergies are your nose reacting to something irritating it. Irritants can include:

  • Pet Dander

  • Flowers Releasing Pollen

  • Mold

  • Freshly-Mowed Lawn

  • Carpeting

  • Dust

Sneezing

When exposed to these allergens, those who suffer from allergies experience an overreaction in their nasal passageways. Common allergy symptoms patients often complain about include:

  • Runny Nose

  • Coughing

  • Sneezing

  • Sore/Irritated Throat

  • Nasal Congestion

  • Sinus Pressure

Medications to Improve Nasal Health

Our nasal health experts are ready to help you tackle your allergy symptoms. Along with drinking plenty of fluids to help flush out your mucus, some over-the-counter options available at our pharmacy include:

  • Saline rinse, such as Neti-pot®, provides a saline solution to help unclog your nasal passages. If you have never used one of these before, talk to your Riverside Village pharmacist to get an explanation on proper usage.

  • Allegra, Zyrtec, and Benadryl are medications often used to help with common allergy symptoms.

  • Decongestants, such as Sudafed and Phenylephrine, are great to help with runny noses and leaky sinuses.

Riverside Village Pharmacy also offers compounded medications to help with improving nasal health.

  • Our nasal irrigation solution helps flush out nasal passages.

  • We provide topical antihistamine preparations.

  • Compounded allergy medications can also be an option for patients who react to specific allergens in their prescription or OTC allergy medications. If you are allergic to gelatin, corn, wheat, dairy, or peanut oil, talk to your Riverside Village pharmacist for alternatives to the usual allergy medications.
